Okay, seriously - what is UP with this location? It's the damn bougiest Nation's I've EVER seen in my life, but their service is horrible. The girl working the register literally had to have EVERY single thing repeated to her, and STILL screwed up! The service is WAY slow at this location too - I couldn't understand how it took them 15 minutes to get to our order, when there were only 2 orders ahead of us, both of which were single burgers. Solid quality food, typical of a Nation's. But unless I've got "normal" restaurant-time to spare, I won't be back.

Second time at the CV location, long time Nations fan. My first visit was great and the burgers were good. The staff was courteous too! For this they got five stars! The second time was disastrous, the night shift had a lady running the counter and her requests to the staff weren't clear and most orders given to the customers while I waited for my phone order were wrong. When she helped me and repeated my order it too was wrong. No problem...it wasn't too long of a wait for another burger to be cooked. As I waited more customer orders were given to other customers and they too were wrong. Hooray, My order came up and off I went! But oh much to my dismay, the meat was dry, there was probably two tablespoons of mayonnaise on the burgers (probably to hide the old meat), then to make my experience even more awesome; the buns were stiff, old, and dry as cardboard. There is a redeeming factor here, we also ordered pies. Now Nations fans know, their pies are great. So I've credited them for that and adjusted for them being new and gave them three stars! Come on management, it can't be too hard to get competent people that listen to the customers and check the orders for accuracy. Also and probably the most important part, enlighten your staff on the value of what it means to sell a quality product. Heck it's even easier then that, tell them if they wouldn't buy it, don't sell it! Here's to hoping my next visit is better. Since I've been a customer for decades and have never had this experience before at other Nations, I'll chock this up to an anomaly and hope you read these reviews to assure your future success. Good Luck

It's Nations...what ya expect! It's solid/ normal menu. If you like Nation's this one won't disappoint. The only negative was the wait time. I think it's gotten better....working out the kinks. The staff is friendly and the parking is adequate. The place itself is on the smaller side, but I've always found a place to get my grub on.

A great All-American burger joint. Parking is a bit cramped but not impossible. A simple but pleasing menu hangs above the counter and grill opposite. Breakfast is served all day and there are delicious homemade pies in the fridge display. As for the food, if you don't like mayo make sure to ask them to hold it. To say that they slather it would be an understatement. Otherwise the burgers are fantastic, plenty of onion and perfectly crispy bacon on top. My biggest complaint is the lack of shake flavors (though 5 is still quite decent). Banana would be greatly appreciated.

Late night food run or just craving some diner food? Nations is a great option that is open late for those late night munchie runs. They're also descently priced. The burgers are huge so you're definitely getting your money's worth. Not sure what you're craving that late at night or early morning? It's ok beause they got you covered from savory breakfast food to sweet tooth desserts like milkshakes and pies. Their Java milkshake is definetly something to try. I got a cheeseburger and java milkshake for less than $10 on my late night run. Although I couldn't finish my cheeseburger because I was stuffed, the two defintely hit the spot. I left satisfied.

Always a favorite of mine. I like Nations more than any local burger for two reasons; juicy delicious patties and lots of onions! Service at this new location is getting better and faster - which has it's up and downs. Recently my order came out pretty quick, for a sit-down burger place, however the burger was smashed and the lettuce was very greasy...missing was the classic full bun look. Oh well, still tasty. A few weeks after opening, we tried breakfast on a Saturday. Ordered at 8:55am and didn't get our food until about 30 minutes later - I mentioned this to the only person that looked like a Manager and she said she'd get it going - I had my food on our table already...it's improved since then. For those in the area that prefer Val's...I'm not sure what the fascination is; nostalgia perhaps...but Val's is a char-burnt burger with bad french fries, slow service and additional charges for some toppings. I'll stick with Nation's, even if my lettuce is runny.

This is not fast food. We went mid-week at a time when it wasn't busy. But geez, it took over 25 minutes for our order. There is an employee who asks those in line how many burgers they plan on ordering, presumably to get the patties onto the grill and decrease the wait time, so I hate to see how long it would take if they didn't do that. We could have driven to In n Out, eaten our meal and been home in the time it took to get ordered and fed at Nation's. On the plus side, it's bright and clean with plenty of parking. The chili fries were good -- not great, but good (I'm not a fan of American cheese.) The pies looked really good but at the end of the meal we didn't want to have to invest another half hour to order and wait. The burgers? Meh. Bland, dry, not memorable. Shakes: Don't taste like they're packed with emulsifiers, which is a plus, but they don't taste like they're made from real ice cream. This would not be my go-to spot for burgers in CV. The burgers at the cafeteria at Eden Hospital (seriously!) are made to order very quickly and much much better and cheaper (and they have decent pie if you need a pie fix.) Burger King burgers are better than Nation's, and you're in and out a lot faster. I'm not a Blvd Burger fan -- lines are long, it's loud, I don't like paying for every little thing I want on my burger, the patties are overcooked, the shakes are small. (On the plus side you can get a beer.) Bottom line: if you really have a jones for a burger, leave town and go to Val's or In-n-Out. If you want something quick late at night, Shari's or Jack in the Box is a better bet. I would have given three stars if we had been served in less than half the time.

Been twice and was happy both times. The burgers and fries are tasty and filling. No complaints there. But my fav are the pies! Nations pies are my gold standard for crust, filling, and overall taste. I've had every flavor from berry to coconut cream to the stawberry cheese cake. 100% delicious each time. Also a helpful hint, if you ever need to bring something delicious to a potluck/afternoon bbq/office party....their pies are always a big hit.

The food is fantastic and the staff is friends but the wait time is a little ridiculous at this location, ordered at 10:01 at 10:33 still no food and isn't crowded here maybe they had a lot of phone orders ??

We've been going to Nation's for years, so I was so glad to hear they were opening one in Castro Valley!!! We stopped in today and ordered a cheeseburger, which was awesome! The service was great, the man behind the cash register was very friendly, and the place was very clean! We will definitely be back!

Great food...Sometimes it can take a long time to prepare your food, so if you are in a hurry this is not a great option

I really don't ask for much. After spending 8 1/2 hours at the hospital in San Francisco dealing with the death of a family member, I just wanted to feed my mom and my 9 year old son. I decided to stop in at Nations because they were open late. I had ordered the 2 egg meal, specifically wanted my eggs over easy. When our food finally came my eggs were nothing short of over done. I took my plate up to the counter as soon as the line had died down and let the cook Sandra know, I even showed her my receipt where it stated what I ordered. She very rudely said, "well you should have brought your plate to me immediately when you got it". I was completely shocked by her response. Are you serious, I'm in the wrong for you over cooking my meal? Clearly whether it was 10 seconds or 10 minutes I still am incapable of cooking my own eggs and obviously you're in the wrong. Not to mention, had I taken you my plate right away that would mean that the rest of my food would have been COLD by the time you correctly cooked my eggs. Thank you, now I am complaining about you specifically Sandra to your corporate office.

Like the previous posters have mentioned, the employees truly tries hard. However, that's where everything positive ends. I ordered one hamburger and one harvester burger without onions and two fries to-go. It took about 35 min. for the order, and harvester came with 3 big slices of raw onions. Then there was the soggy and greasy fries that tasted like ammonia. I guess they probably don't replace their fryer grease. That's not the worst part, both my wife and I got sick from eating. Our stomachs are still churning...

    (2)
  • Jackie D.

Nation's was slow but otherwise great when it opened up. What happened? Service is still good, if slow. Fries are still good. But the burgers are soggy. Really too soggy to eat comfortably. (New, inferior hamburger buns maybe? Way too much mayonnaise?) Soggy hamburgers twice in a row is enough. We'll drive the extra miles for good hamburgers at The Habit in Dublin. Or go down the street to Boulevard Burgers.

    (3)
  • David B.

The burgers have a similar taste to Five Guys & In-n-Out: a well-done patty with ample veggies slathered in sauce and melted American cheese. It's not a bad thing, but nothing special. The fries were fine (much better than In-n-Out), and the strawberry cheesecake wasn't bad. I'll take Val's for a better sit-down diner experience, and Boulevard for a better upscale order-at-the-counter burger experience, but since we don't have a super-local In-n-Out, I'll give Nation's 3 stars for effort.

The new Nations in Castro Valley has lost me forever. I normally go to the San Ramon one because it is always clean and they always get my order right. Today is my third visit to Castro Valley, the first time, they got the order wrong. The second time they got the order wrong, this time, they really got the order wrong. I ordered 3 hot dogs with mustard, relish and onions, add cheese to one. Well, I walked over there on my lunch time and found that my co-workers 2 hot dogs were plain (yep, nothing but the dog and the bun), mine had the cheese and that was it. I called, spoke to Baz the manager, she told me she remembered my order, she said she remembered my asking for the cheese on one, but remembers nothing about the condiments. That is the last time I go there. Who eats a hot dog plain? Sorry, they have had more than one chance and blew each time. San Ramon, you are still my favorite. Since I could not save this without one star, they get the star for how fast they got the food done. Why not, they didn't put anything on them.

All Nations are essentially the same! I'm not sure what some people are expecting, it's basically fast food but they make it fresh for you so yeah- it takes a while! The best thing you can do is call in your order and show up whenever they say it will be ready. I've been going to Nations forever. This one is much cleaner than the one on Jackson or in San Leandro and nicer inside than the one in San Ramon! Also if you haven't had the pie, make time and room for some! I've found splitting a burger is more than sufficient, and yes they will totally cut it in half for you. Also maybe I'm just weird but honey mustard on the fries is the best!

Love Nations in general but this new location is amazing great service and great food!! Defiantly coming back to this location instead of the hayward one

In the words of my husband, "Nation's is back!" This new nations is very nice, clean, and modern. The service was excellent. Our food was tasty, and when I let one of the cooks know our fries were lukewarm, they let my husband keep those and they fried us new ones with no problem. All the staff was very pleasant. We will be back!

Great burger, fries, and--of course--pies! Beware--they pack their burgers with thick slices of onion! Service is fabulous as well. We love Mercedes!

The workers here are soo nice! I mean they are nice at all of them but this one they are especially nice. The food is your standard Nations food. If u like it come here! Clean too. Good burgers fries breakfast shakes and of course pies!

  • Crystal D.

Terrible staff. They are rude and unorganized. I have been here a couple times and both times I had to wait a really long time for my food when there was no one else here. At one point, I noticed there was no one even at the grill to even cook the food after 30 minutes of waiting! Very disappointed.

    (1)
  • Jacqueline H.

Well...don't bother. Took 25 min for our order. Ham & cheese was greasy, fries very greasy and mushy. Hamburger bun fell apart, not much flavor. We won't be back. Poor Castro Valley just can't get a break.

    (1)
  • Scott M.

Horrible service. The staff could careless about the people they are helping. Good was made incorrectly and in front of me they looked annoyed that I brought it back and through it away. I spoke with someone in charge and she could careless as well. Second time here and the firs time wasn't that great either. I won't be back!!!

5 stars for the customer service but minus 3 for the SLOW service!!!! I waited 32 minutes for 1 hamburger and 1 fries.Go to the one in San Leandro.

  • Tuff G.

It's a Nations. How could it be bad? This is a new location, so it is clean, well lit, and nicely new looking. A bit small inside for the dining area. We came here for a quick breakfast. Lots of food, and quick. I hope the business keeps up here. The staff is clean looking and friendly. No complaints.

  • Eegnam A.

Pies, milk shakes, burgers and fries! It's all good. Ask for light veggies or your burger will come with a salad inside :-)

If i could i would give them no stars this place suuuucks. Always a long ass line. They take forever even tho there is like 10 ppl behind the reg. There burgers suuuck id rather go down the street to jack in the box. The one in san leandro is soooo much better

I'm mean come on this is Castro valley. The one city with virtually no good eating spots. There are a lot of mom and pop diners but C.V. was in serious dire need of an up to date eatery. By George they did it. Staff is super friendly fast and efficient. Been the night after the grand opening and Friday night. Both times they had "big wigs" there to make surr things were running smoothly. Even remembered my name and had great conversation. I do feel bad for Sherri restaurant. She may not sell another pie. And to the other burger joints who nickel and dime you for tomatoes grilled onions and pickles...... sowwwweeeeeee. Had an awesome slice of cherry cheesecake. Yum. But yeah I know is Nations but to C V it's like the best thing since sliced bread and kool aid

  • Johal I.

Service is usually great. They are consistently busy, but still get your order out pretty quickly. I don't think it's the greatest food, but it's good. I like the pies and fries the most....I feel like the burgers are ok...nothing to write home about but good.

Called in order 5:20 , payed for called order 5:37, order done 6pm, nobody in front of me when i arrived, and lady said on phone "ready in 10 minutes" later she said "sorry we forgot about you"

I had breakfast opening day and it was okay nothing to brag about although the French Toast was my favorite. Then I came back with my family for dinner. The burgers we're satisfying especially the free pie samples. And for the shakes sorry but did not impress me one bit. Kudos to staying open till 1am.

  • Jane W.

Bacon cheeseburger -Thin dry meat patties - fresh veggies Not happy. Flavor is bland, it's a big burger if you like triple stacks of tomato, lettuce and onions. I had to double check the menu to make sure I was getting a 3/4 meat patty. Breakfast with hotcakes -sausage is ok -hotcakes are flat and bland but at least they give you real butter. Most likely won't be back.

  • Kiel P.

We decided to get a few burgers for take out to satisfy those late night cravings and we were left feeling disappointed. Now I'm no stranger to a nations hamburger and ours were just okay. The patty was too dry for our taste and the burger as a whole was underwhelming. The strawberry cheesecake on the other hand was excellent. Almost too good in a dangerous, I'm-gonna-eat-this-whole-pie kinda way.

  • William B.

This review if for this Nations and how it ranks among other nations. I'm not reviewing them based on them being some new ground breaking change in burgers. It tastes just like every other nations. Food is just as good as any other nations. If you have been to Nations you know what to expect. Service is good and food is A+ in terms of nations quality. People with too high of hopes and not being realistic on where they are eating should be ignored. It's just like any other chain, it tastes like the rest of the chains. lol

We had a burger, stawberry shake and grilled cheese. The burger was cooked great. The shake was excellent. The service was fast and efficient.

  • Sencha K.

First off, the people who work there are really, really nice and aim to please. Sadly however, they have a ways to go. The burgers were mushy and very sloppily thrown together. They had no flavor at all as well. The pie was thrown in the plastic container and was a broken up sloppy mess. The French roast coffee was good. Two burgers, one drink, one mediocre milkshake, one order of fries, one piece of pie, one coffee--28 dollars. Nations just doesn't serve up the big juicy burgers with big chunks of tomato, lettuce, and onion like they used to. We were very disappointed we didn't go to the other burger joint in town instead. We won't be returning. Sorry Nations--you've changed. *sad face*

Breakfast leaves a lot to be desired. Ordered eggs over easy, they were solid as a rock. Bacon crisp served floppy. Hash browns were extremely dry. Would not recommend this Nations for breakfast ever

  • Kirk B.

Brought the kids here. I don't eat fast food, so I can't comment on the food except to say it was not fast. Took FOREVER. Crowded. Not enough seating. Need seating outside -- there's plenty of room for it.

I haven't been hearing the greatest reviews from people about this particular location. So, I was a little hesitant to try it out.. Last night, I did... And honestly, I wish I just went somewhere else. It really didn't taste very good. I ordered the bacon cheeseburger, french fries and a chocolate milk shake. The burger was big but wasn't tasty, nothing special about it, I didn't even finish it because a little less then half way through, I was just like this sucks. The fries were good, not the best, but still good, probably the best part of the meal. Then, the milkshake, I think they put way too much milk in it, it wasn't thick at all. I mean some people have gone here and they said they liked it but I know personally I won't be going back, or at least not for a while.. I know they're new so hopefully things will get better..

Oh man its Nation's Time! Got a chicken caesar salad for my girl and a bacon burger for me all to-go. The cashier guy was so nice it threw me through a loop, but it was very refreshing. Ordered and took a seat to wait. As I waited saw the best crowd of people come in and out, High teens ordering eggs, unusually large people who took up two registers and also very polite happy people, rare for burger joint at nice. As I watched the teens stumble through their order, the chubbersters order two whole pies and the cutest elderly couple order, I began to notice that the time has crept by and still no food. I love burgers and I don't mind the wait, but i can see how waiting 15 minutes for a burger and salad could be upsetting to people. I just want those people to know that there's a jack in the box right across the street and to not get this place mistaken for fast food, its not. It's good food thats made to order. Thanks for being polite, I'll be back

Greasy and bland. No, thank you! If you're looking for a yummy, high quality burger, head to Val's, Five Guys or In-N-Out.

  • Brian K.

Been here a couple of times now and I'm really happy with this location. The staff is awesome and I haven't had an issue with the food. The wait time could be better and that really keeps this from being a 5 star review.

  • Sydney S.

Hmm. I wanted to like it. I wanted to have a good local burger stop. But alas it took too long to get served, the chili cheese fries were so so (a slice of american cheese thrown on top), and even though I said no mayo I got a huge glob. They need to get their act together otherwise just another iffy CV eatery.

  • Jusneet K.

Very happy with my nations experience, and am delighted that they're now so close to home. As a vegetarian, all i order here are pies and a sourdough grilled cheese with grilled onions and tomatoes. cant go wrong there! the place was buzzing and the staff were courteous

Never a doubt! We went there Monday afternoon. Small line, got our food hot and very good. Very clean, no problems at all. $20.00 bucks for Bacon/Cheeseburger, reg. Cheeseburger, 2 fries, large and small drink. Can't beat it.

I was very excited to visit the new nations in castro valley on saturday morning around 11:45 . I walked up to the counter to order my 3 egger breakfast when I was informed that they stopped serving breakfast at 11:30 . My hopes were shot down as i look over the workers shoulder and see eggs, bacon , hashbrowns and french toast cooking away on the flat top . I asked if they are like the only nations in the world that doesnt serve breakfast all day and he sarcastically informed me that there are several . What a douche . Since when did nations stop doing breakfast at 11:30 . It really sucked to be told that I couldnt order breakfast as I watch them cooking breakfast food . Not a good way to start a relationship with a nations regular , So I just walked out and went to the nations in san leandro and got my breakfast with much friendlier service.

Horrible, horrible service. I first came to this new nations (which is a few blocks from my house) on the 3rd day of opening. The owner was there and the line was out the door. I had to wait behind a rope (like at the club) to wait to get inside. The owner came out , offered coffee as we waited, that was awesome, really nice guy. Once inside it was very busy but they were kicking out orders really swiftly. I thought, OK we got a good nations in Castro valley, it will be just like the Hayward location. NOT!!!!! My boyfriend and I were there about a month ago on a Saturday around 12:30pm. It was busy but not crazy busy, we waited for our 2 cheeseburgers and 2 fries for about 40 minutes and when we did get our food both our buns and patty was chard, like really burnt. So i Brushed that occasion off because i had such a great first experience, i thought every restaurant has an off day, ill let it slide. But they messed up again. We just went tonight and I will have to say I will no longer will go to this nations anymore. We got there and ordered at 9:30 tonight, (i looked on my receipt for the order time). We ordered 2 milkshakes and a slice of pie. There were two people ahead of us when we ordered and 4 people after us. one customer before us complained about his wait time. The 4 people after us got their food before us. We waited over 20 minutes for 2 shakes and a slice of pie. Even other customers saw what was going on and stated that it was not cool we didnt get our food. So my BF asks one of kids behind the counter where our order was, the kids looks at my bf crazy and ignores him. So rude. So we went and asked for our money back. It was ridiculous. The owner needs to have a presence there more because his employees are not doing his restaurant right. I will be going back to the Hayward Nations , it has excellent service and gets orders out efficiently.

I was disquested,at 6 16 am I left I thought to my self if this how she acts, does she wash after partake in a dump...I feel sick..by the way when it nations was first opened hours on the web said open 6 am,,,since it has changed to 7 am... be sure to bring goggles, Windex and paper towels....

We will not be going back.......Nations used to be a great hamburger, this was nothing like they used to be. Soggy bun, tasteless meat and cheese, just lacked that good burger flavor. Our go to burger places are Fudruckers , BLVD Burger, in Castro Valley and any In 'N Out.

Boulevard is way better i mean every one wants a non chain burger so if you want a chain burger go to McDonalds,Burger King or jack in the box they are all right bye here but boulevard is the #1 burger place here so go there

  • Heather E.

Background: I ordered a bacon cheeseburger (with no mayo/dressing) onion rings and a shake. I deliberately asked when the lady at the register read my order back to me what the dressing that came on it, and she said a miracle whip dressing, and that was all she said. So I confirmed again and said no dressings then please. I go to eat my burger (while at home, since I ordered to go) and and I can taste scraped off dressing, and a TON of mustard on the bottom of my burger (that I can clearly see piled on), which that I now can not eat.. If the lady would of told me when I asked what the dressings were that there was mustard I wouldn't be so mad since I would of asked for no mustard too. But being I stated NO dressings. I'm very disappointed I paid $15 for a meal that I can only eat half way.

Burgers are okay but the place is dirty- every booth and every table. Also, I am freezing my ass off in here waiting on the food. No reason for it to be 60 inside when it's summer outside. Condition your body, instead of punishing the environment.

  • Kathleen A.

Similar to many of the other Nation's I have been to, this location did not disappoint. My husband and I stopped by for breakfast and ended up ordering lunch. I like that I can order any type of food at whatever hour it may be. Two grilled cheese sandwiches without everything on it (why would I want tomatoes, lettuce and onions on a grilled cheese-bleh), and two orders of chili with cheese. The meal was decent although I am sad that there are no other choices of cheese than American. I love American cheese in my grilled cheese but a variety would be nice for the chili and other items. Service was friendly and they have Coke Zero at the fountain which is a plus. Overall, good experience and I will return when I am in the mood for American cheese with my meal (yes, I love my cheese so understand there is an inherent bias that goes with this!)

Ok so I come here pretty regular.. And right now they told me that they can't make a one egg breakfast because not only the lady can't make breakfast but she don't know how.. And that the regular employee is at a company pick nick.. So how are you guna send your employees on a company pick nick and then bring in someone that Can't cook breakfast?? Like fuck get out of my way so I can show you how to crack an egg throw on frozen potatoes and butter some toast... How dumb do you need to be to not know how to cook breakfast.... I'm so annoyed I want call the main person and tell them to hire me as manager cuz whoever is manager needs to be fire.... This is so ridiculous...

Stick to the Nation's in either Hayward or San Leandro; still after all this time being open Castro Valley MISSES the mark. Maybe all the people who do like this location doesn't know what a good Nation's location is, or have clearly never had any before this location. I originally avoided coming here in the beginning because I know a lot of people had issues with the unorganization and the drawn out long wait times for food, so I thought I'd finally go in recently to see if they have gotten their ish together yet. NOPE, Still bad. my meat patty had burnt edges and tasted too much like a cheap frozen patty, and the veggies didn't even seem all the fresh. The CHEESE even tasted different than the other locations! Wtf! And here I am mad they wouldn't even give me a proper call back when I applied twice LMAO....this location should be out of business soon hopefully. Again, stick to Hayward or San Leandro. Yes, even San Leandro is better than this dump.

This place needs help. Service is sooooo slow! They need to hire more help too! Only two people working during lunch hour! The lady cooking only makes one thing at a time which is something I have never seen at a Nations. The grill needs to be scrubbed cleaned, it looks disgusting. Most of the tables are dirty and there are stacks of dirty dishes by the garbage. I agree with another review that the air conditioning in here is way too cold. This place has lots of free parking and its in Castro Valley so I hope they fix all their issues so I can keep coming here.

For their breakfast, the value cannot be beat in the area! $4.50 for a small, $6.80 for a regular size. Opting for the regular size we received 2 eggs any style, hash browns, 2 slices of toast as well as 4 sausages/hamburger patty. This location is kept clean, and service is quick. Call in your order and it's ready to go in less than 15 min. Parking is a breeze with ample space. They serve breakfast all day! So whenever you get the craving, you'll know where to hit up for that eggy potato-y goodness.

I love Nations but this location can't seem to deliver a burger in under 20 minutes. Seriously??? And does the thermostat have to be set to 65 degrees? We finally had to eat outside because my mother was freezing to death.

Service is slow. Tables, booths and isles were dirty. All the fountain sodas were nasty and needed to be refilled. But the burgers were okay. Might not ever come back tho

Totally short staffed! Breakfast was purchased at 12:36pm...... Calling out #141.... We are still waiting and we are a party of 4 and #130. What is going on here? We're patiently waiting, but it is wearing thin. It is now 1:13pm and we now have our food. Cheese omelette, 1 egg breakfast and 2, 2 egg breakfasts. The food was fine. My suggestion would be to hire more staff. No one likes to wait longer than 30 minutes for a meal, especially when it is just food from the grill.

Great food and good service. I have no complaints. It's Nations, you know what you're getting, big burgers and pies. The breakfast is awesome and there's good veggie options too. Eat a giant burger, it's good, or don't it's your life.

Nation's is a decent chain and when I saw one open up in Castro Valley, it was on the list to try. The inside was nice, clean, and spacious; you can barely tell it used to be half of a Blockbuster Video. The cashier was friendly and accommodating to my grandpa's order. I just got a cheeseburger and small drink. We picked a booth, sat down, and waited over 20 minutes for our food. It wasn't crowded, so I'm unsure as to what took so long. The burger was cooked decently with fresh toppings. Both my grandpa and I noticed our buns were stale though. Overall it wasn't great, but not horrible either. I'm willing to give it another shot since they are new.

This is one of the ONLY nations locations that offers salad! They have a regular side salad, a chicken caesar and salmon caesar. You can get caesar dressing or kraft balsamic. Their grilled cheeses are very good, I get them plain (otherwise they put lettuce and tomato inside) - they slather them with "I can't believe it's not butter" or one of those butter alternatives, which is basically just oil. Their salmon burger isn't bad but can be really greasy and takes a long time to cook. It will hold up your whole order. It's really messy to eat (as are all their burgers) You will need lots of napkins from the napkin dispenser on your table. Shakes are OK, nothing particularly great. They're pretty thick. They do list the calories on the menu next to each item which is nice. Condiments, soda, tea, coffee is all self serve. Their wait time isn't terrible as long as you don't have salmon coming down the line.

Nations looks nice, like a diner here. usual menu. more upsell. fries? pies? drinks? eats: hot dog(2.85) -tasted like a beef dog, in a toasted bun, lacked much taste -condiments bar only had ketchup, mustard, hot sauce, no relish, sliced onions . tomatoes, kauerfraut, nada. 2 stars for dog.

I can see why the new Nation's in Castro Valley might be inspiring some of the lower reviews, but c'mon guys -- the place has only pretty much JUST opened. Boyfriend and I were greeted as we walked in through the door by who I am assuming to be the manager/owner of the restaurant. He was a very friendly man who also, later on during our meal, announced the Oakland A's win over the intercom system. Good use of resources. The wait was a little long for our burgers (we each got a regular cheeseburger and split an order of fries), but you could tell that the staff was trying their best to accommodate the amount of orders they were receiving. The manager even went along the line, asking how many burgers people were planning on order and having the staff set the patties to cooking in order to try and cut down on wait times. It was a valiant effort. Boyfriend and I personally found our burgers to be a little heavy on the mayonnaise side (almost drowning in it, actually). I like mayonnaise, but not necessarily to such a degree that it made eating the burger difficult as everything kept sliding out (and getting the food all over our hands to boot). But otherwise, it was a decent burger! And the fries were good, too. Nothing amazing, but nothing horrible either. Just another burger joint that now calls Castro Valley home. I might come back to snag some pie slices (which are HUGE and cheap), but in terms of food, I might wait until the hype dies down a little further before I come back in order to avoid such a massive wait again.

I was so excited to see a Nation's open up in Castro Valley, as my wife loves the pies from here! The banana cream pie here is especially great and I was glad that they had a bunch to pick up when I stopped in the other night to bring some dessert home to celebrate her birthday! The burgers here are solid as well, glad to have Nations in CV! We'll definitely be back!

Being the American food lover I am and also being the rather accepting burger consumer I have to say I was rather disappointed with this place. I came here on its opening day a little over a year ago and have not been back since. The burger got the buns soggy after one bite of the burger. The shake was tasteless and watery with absolutely no density to it. The saving grace is the fries which are good not great. It is a shame that the food they are known for is not the best item on the menu.

My family and I were very excited to see nations opening. Personally, I was excited because I don't know any place that sold custard pie around our area, other than the nations at San Leandro. My family on the other hand, was pretty excited to just have another new place in Castro Valley to eat at. Castro Valley, I would say, is jam-packed full of diners. I've tasted nearly all of them and is it odd that I crave different ones because I can now differentiate the tastes? Really... If you blindfold me and feed me food from the different diners, I would know where they came from!! Anyway, it's going to be a tough pick between Nations and Shari's for midnight cravings. When I first walked in, I was surprised to see the place- first blockbuster, then a paint shop and now a restaurant? Amazing transformation and lets just say that I hope the place stays clean! The food pretty much tasted the same as the other chains. However, I would say that the burgers taste better and are bigger, less flat like a fast food burger... But again, let's see what this burger turns into overtime. We also ordered the chili cheese fries, which is my FAVE to order at nations. It always comes out perfect enough to satisfy my junk food needs! Overall, good location for a new food place, near the theatre and in a plaza that could use a bit of attention. Maybe nations can up the business around that area (thumbs up).

What happened to the cv nations? The service used to be so friendly. The 2 ladies in here right now offered the worst customer service ever, as in none. Time for some new hires. Plus it shouldn't take 15 minutes to get a burger when there are only 5 other people in the restaurant. Figure it out or I won't be back.

The food's okay, but the service is really slow. Does it really have to take 25 minutes for one order itself? (There was no one else waiting for food/in line).

Nation's just opened and there is a line out the door. Literally. I'm surprised how dirty the restaurant is already for being open for just two days - ketchup container is dirty, bottles were empty and while some of the ladies were busting their butts trying to turn out a bunch of burgers, there were other staff standing around looking lost. Fredrick Winslow Taylor (father of time and motion studies) is probably rolling in his grave - I felt stressed watching people work and the disorganization (but at least it helped the time pass as we waited! A lot of people who were in line and waiting for their food complained that it is a small space, but it looked like there was always at least one table open. We shared a burger and chili fries and it definitely left a heavy, greasy feeling. The burger patty was much smaller than I remember and it was definitely falling apart. after the second bite. I thought that Normans Grill further down the block had a better burger. Right now you can only get breakfast until 11:30a; latter on you can get it all day. They are out of some pies (ie cherry), but the strawberry pies are definitely in season and in stock.

When I close at work, I don't get home 'til midnight, so I was happy to see Nation's was open until 1 am. I stopped in, hoping they could make a lettuce wrapped burger (since I can't eat wheat) and was pleased when the cashier enthusiastically acquiesced. I'm glad I finally gave the place a shot, but my mistake that night was paying with cash. The poor cashier didn't have enough change in the drawer (I paid with a $20) and it took quite a while to get some change from the back. I would have been happy to void the transaction an pay by card, but unfortunately there was no manager on duty and the cashier had no authority to do so. Why is there no manager on duty during store hours? I get that it's late, but this situation could have been avoided had there been a manager present. In the end, I got a roll of quarters... not the worst thing in the world but it would have been nice to have cash. The burger itself truly was GIANT. It was mediocre at best, though. Fries, meh. Major plus: BBQ in the pumps at the condiment station. I'm not a ketchup fan, so that was nice to see. The two stars are my overall rating mainly for the food, but I would like to stress that the staff was friendly and accommodating! I'll be sticking to In N Out for my burgs, but thanks for the kind service despite the late hour, boys!

So the manager or assistant manager definitely touched my hamburger patty with his bare hands (unwashed) and tried to serve it to me. I, with a smile, rejected the patty and asked for another one that hasn't been touched by bare hands. Not only were they unapologetic but they took their sweet time making a new burger. I've been in food service for 5 years and always treat others in the same field with as much respect as possible but this place sucks pretty hard. Oh yea forgot to add that they skipped my order by two customers so I spent a good 20min waiting to eat...

Slow service. Waited a long time as I had a to go order. While I was there two people went up to complain about something wrong with their orders. That should have been my clue. Of course I didn't check my order and it was wrong. Meat patty really overdone. Never going back

Well decided to go back into nations hamburgers to give them another try well it didn't work out too well the lady at the register that took the order was not very friendly at all she took my order then she asked me if I wanted ala carte I said no I wanted to ate breakfast with him I don't want any Hasbro.. After placing my order was shut down after 40 minutes and they were calling numbers 10 numbers more than what my number was I walk up to the cash register and ask what's going on she said the order didn't come up on the computer that's amazing because I had a ticket in my hands that number 30 with the order so waiting for another 15 minutes and finally received our breakfast when I got my plate there was hashbrowns on it I requested no hash browns va look good the ham looked like it was a piece of sandwich ham but you purchase at the grocery store it was so thin that when you looked it up you can almost see through it it was not like their regular him but they have sold before which is a pretty good piece of me very disappointed I do not recommend this facility attitudes are much to be desired service is not good at all recommendation is to go down the street they will not get a third chance

Worst breakfast place I have beem to. Took 2 hours for food to be ready, breakfast pancake tasted like microwaved boxed foods. There was a damn booth left unclean for the whole tkme I was there and their workers was eating on the damn table. This is just...take the place down now

Very dissatisfied and won't be back. There are many other burger options in CV, Boulevard Burger being the best. I wanted to like Nation's, but the poor service & mediocre quality of food ruined that for me. My simple cheeseburger, fries & soda took 20 minutes to be ready. Then the fries were stone cold, greasy & limp. By the time I got their attention & got fresh fries, my burger was cold. The burger was over cooked and hard with an over abundance of raw onions. Maybe to cover up the hockey puck meat patty. Sad. It could have been good, but not worth the $9.27.
